Episode Notes:

Dr. Laura is honoured to host Detective Dave Sweet, a 24 year member of the Calgary Police Service and published author, to the podcast to talk about tragedy and hope. Detective Sweet has been changed by many difficult and tragic situations, but works to learn lessons and retain a positive outlook.

Dr. Laura shares that she first met Dave Sweet during a tragedy that affected her own family, which was when she first read his book, Skeletons in my Closet. Dave wrote the book with the idea of it being a memoir of sorts, a legacy of the lessons he learned that he could pass down to his children and grandchildren. Each story in the book, no matter how disturbing, has a message or silver lining. Detective Sweet discusses some of those lessons, the subject of his next book, and what courage means in this enlightening interview.

“Tragedy isn’t something that we wish for. But when it does come, there are often opportunities. It may be a challenge at first, but there are opportunities to find silver linings in that tragedy …” – Dave Sweet
